Products don't solve infrastructure problems on their own.

The chemistry matters. So does understanding the problem, reaching the cause and applying it correctly.

Pantonite products are designed to address biological and mineral fouling across drinking-water infrastructure. But the product itself is only one part of a successful rehabilitation.

Good outcomes depend on understanding what is causing the performance problem, selecting the right chemistry, getting that chemistry to the right part of the asset and applying it in a way that allows it to work effectively.

That principle applies across wells, rapid gravity filters and storage tanks.

Wells: getting treatment to where the fouling develops

In a groundwater well, biological and mineral fouling may develop on the well screen and within the surrounding formation.

Simply introducing chemistry into the well does not guarantee that the affected areas are being treated effectively. The rehabilitation approach needs to consider how the product reaches the screen or relevant rock openings and the surrounding formation, how adequate contact is achieved, pH is monitored and maintained, how loosened material and washout is managed. 

The chemistry matters. So does the way the well is treated and redeveloped.

Rapid gravity filters: treating more than the visible media

In an RGF, the most visible signs of deterioration often appear in the media.

But the underlying problem may sit deeper in the filter.

Restrictions can develop around the filter floor, nozzles and underdrain, affecting backwash flow and preventing the media from being rinsed properly. If treatment focuses only on the visible media, the underlying hydraulic restriction may remain.

Effective refurbishment therefore requires an understanding of the complete filter structure and a treatment approach capable of reaching the areas contributing to the performance loss and managing the waste materials produced. 

Storage tanks: application method affects both outcome and downtime

Storage-tank cleaning presents a different challenge.

Biofouling and accumulated deposits need to be removed from internal surfaces, but the method used to apply the chemistry can make a significant difference to the overall intervention.

The right application process can improve contact with deposits, avoid unnecessary reliance on aggressive high-pressure cleaning and reduce the time an asset needs to remain out of service.

The Fredonia tank-cleaning project is a recent example, where our partner ATiS – Advanced Tank & Infrastructure Solutions used a low-pressure Pantonite cleaning process to complete the clean in under six hours after a previous contractor had spent four days attempting to pressure-wash the tank.
